Chieh-hsiu Liu, MD, MSc, DPhil

Dr. Chieh-Hsiu Liu is an Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine, National Cheng
Kung University (NCKU), and a practicing geriatrician at NCKU Hospital in Tainan, Taiwan.
His research is situated at the intersection of geriatric medicine, health services research,
and comparative long-term care policy. He is particularly interested in the development
and evaluation of innovative care models and policies that integrate health and social care
for older adults and their family caregivers. His work draws on mixed-methods and
interdisciplinary approaches, with a strong emphasis on clinically and policy-relevant
research.
Dr. Liu is actively engaged in international academic collaborations and policy advocacy.
He is currently involved in cross-national research projects that explore care poverty and
the design of comprehensive policy frameworks for children, older adults, and individuals
with disabilities. In Taiwan, he serves on the Long-Term Care Policy Advisory Board at the
National Health Research Institutes and offers policy input and consultation to the Ministry
of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Labor, and the Hakka Affairs Council. He also
collaborates closely with civil society organizations and currently serves on the boards of
the Taiwan Association of Family Caregivers and the Taiwan Society for Care Research.
His current and recent projects explore the development, evaluation, and implementation
of integrated geriatric care models and their incorporation into medical education. These
initiatives include building hospital-to-community social prescribing networks; developing
care navigation platforms that support older adults, family caregivers, and healthcare
professionals during care transitions; and designing community-oriented, service-learning
geriatrics curricula for medical students.
