Target learners
Physicians who have completed residency training and hold specialist certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, or Emergency Medicine, and who plan to practice geriatric medicine
Training focus (overview)
The specialist training program is planned as an one to two year fellowship, aiming to develop (1) competent geriatric medicine specialists, (2) future educators in geriatric medicine, and (3) research capability in geriatric medicine.
Program structure (high level)
• Year 1: Intensive clinical training—supervised case management, attending rounds, case conferences, outpatient learning, and exposure to home care and long-term care facilities
• Year 2 (optional/advanced): Emphasis on research training and taking on structured teaching responsibilities for junior trainees; further academic development is encouraged
Training settings & team
Training is delivered across the geriatric acute ward and outpatient clinics, with additional experiences in long-term care (institutional and community-based) and home care. Fellows train within a multidisciplinary team (including nursing, case management, social work, rehabilitation professionals, nutrition, and clinical pharmacy).
